Parents Are Noticing This Too

A lot of parents today are quietly asking themselves the same question:

“My child is doing everything they’re supposed to be doing… so why do they still seem so lost?”

Students today are working harder than ever before. Their schedules are packed with AP classes, extracurriculars, sports, volunteering, internships, tutoring, and college preparation. On paper, many of them look incredibly successful.

But underneath all of that, many students are struggling with something much deeper: direction.

We are seeing more and more students who are academically capable but genuinely unsure of what they want their future to look like. Some feel overwhelmed by the pressure to figure everything out early. Others are constantly comparing themselves to classmates online and feeling behind before adulthood has even begun.

Many students today struggle with:

• anxiety about the future

• lack of motivation outside of academics

• low confidence in real-world situations

• uncertainty around careers and life paths

• feeling pressure to succeed without knowing what success even means to them

The reality is that students are growing up in a completely different world than previous generations.

There are more opportunities than ever before, but also more pressure, more uncertainty, and more noise. Students are expected to make life-changing decisions earlier and earlier, often without enough real guidance along the way.

That is why mentorship matters so much.

Not because students are incapable, but because many of them simply need support, perspective, structure, and someone to help them navigate what can feel like an overwhelming stage of life.

At BuildBetter, we believe students should not have to figure everything out alone.
